Known for its endless summer, L.A. is bursting with fun things to see and do when the sun shines.

From hiking up famous Runyon Canyon to enjoying a relaxing day in the water at El Matador State Beach, perusing the shops and street performers along the iconic Venice Boardwalk or even taking in an evening screening of your favourite film at Cinespia at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Whether you’re an early bird or someone who likes to sleep in, L.A. has something fun to do from dawn ‘til dusk. The hardest part will be fitting everything in!

Runyon Canyon

Located in the heart of Hollywood, this iconic park is perfect for working up a sweat whilst taking in unbeatable views of the Hollywood Sign and the Sunset Strip. Hikers can choose the paved path for an easy walk or the rugged trail along the park’s outer border for a more challenging and intense workout. The views in summer can be quite hazy, but during the winter or spring, you can see all the way out to the Pacific Ocean. The trails are open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset, and are a favourite of celebrities, so be sure to keep an eye out - it’s the ultimate place for a spot of people watching!

El Matador State Beach

Malibu’s crowning glory, this secluded beach boasts some of the clearest water in L.A., and its natural rock formations and sea caves have made it iconic, with the pristine stretch of sand often used for photoshoots. The north section of the beach is usually less crowded, but has some of the best caves to explore - just make sure it’s low tide, you don’t want to be rescued by the coast guard! Parking is only $8USD for the day, but snagging a spot can be tough, so head there on a weekday, because it’s well worth the effort! Stay until the golden hour when the sun is setting and the beach glows - it’s a must for any keen photographers!

Venice Boardwalk

Walk, bike or rollerblade along the boardwalk and see a unique variety of vendors and street performers in action, including break dancers, mimes, musicians, jugglers and even people walking on broken glass. The wow factor is next level! You can also do a spot of shopping, play basketball with the locals or hit the skate park. Next up is the iconic Muscle Beach where you can see bodybuilders in action - some may even let you take a photo with them. Want to say you lifted weights in the same place as Arnold Schwarzenegger? A day pass to the gym is only $10, so why not test out those muscles!

Cinespia at Hollywood Forever Cemetery

A cemetery unlike any other, it is the final resting place for many of Hollywood’s stars and also one of L.A.’s best places to catch a movie or concert under the night sky. Signalling the start of summer, movie-lovers descend on the cemetery with blankets and pillows in hand before settling in to see cult classics and Hollywood favourites. Don’t have any gear? The Cinespia Store sells picnic rugs, warm blankets and wine glasses, as you are able to bring your own beer and wine! Every screening features pre-show and after-show DJs, themed photo booths and even the occasional visit from movie stars and filmmakers.
